TigerByte Cyber, a Hanover, New Hampshire-based cybersecurity startup, has emerged from stealth with $3 million in seed financing. The round was led by Hale Capital Partners and included participation from Tenon VC.
The company develops security technology intended for artificial intelligence systems and edge devices, where computing equipment operates outside traditional data centers and may have limited resources or long replacement cycles. TigerByte Cyber said its platform is designed to add current security controls to older, mission-critical systems without requiring major hardware redesigns.
Focus on legacy and mission systems
Its product, called the Cyber Protection Suite, is a compact hardware-based offering that the company says can provide functions including data validation, deep packet inspection, network segmentation and post-quantum encryption. The company positions the technology for use in communications, navigation and autonomous systems deployed in aviation, space, defense and vehicles.
TigerByte Cyber plans to use the investment to expand its technology and manufacturing operations in the United States. Its stated priorities include modernizing security for military and commercial aircraft, drones, satellites and ground vehicles.
The startup said it has secured more than $7 million in government contracts, naming the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Navy and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency among its customers or contracting agencies. The announcement did not provide details on contract scopes, timelines or deployment status.
Technology background
TigerByte Cyber appears to build on technology associated with WebSensing, a company founded in 2016 that focused on single-chip network security products. According to the announcement, products and personnel from that earlier effort have transitioned to the TigerByte Cyber brand.
Chief executive Sage Secilmis said the company aims to apply security concepts commonly used in cloud environments to edge-based systems, particularly those operating in environments where availability and data integrity are critical. Secilmis cited post-quantum cryptography, data validation and formal parsing among the technologies being combined in the company’s platform.
The funding reflects continuing investor interest in security products for embedded, autonomous and edge-connected infrastructure, sectors where organizations face the challenge of protecting legacy equipment against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
