A SecurityWeek webinar scheduled for August 18, 2026, will examine whether conventional detection-led security operations can respond effectively as artificial intelligence accelerates both cyberattacks and defensive activity.
The session, titled “Rethinking Cyber Defense for AI-Speed Attacks,” is set to begin at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. It will focus on the shrinking gap between vulnerability disclosure and exploitation, as well as the growing use of automation across the attack lifecycle.
Organizers say the discussion will consider whether security teams should continue prioritizing detection and response or place greater emphasis on prevention as the default approach. The topic reflects broader industry concerns that machine-assisted attacks could move faster than workflows designed around human analysis, manual remediation and traditional patching cycles.
Panel will assess changing attacker and defender capabilities
Participants are expected to discuss how AI is affecting exploitation, threat detection and security operations. The conversation will also address how organizations can adapt processes and technologies when attackers can rapidly identify weaknesses, generate attack paths and adjust tactics.
The panel features Jason Kikta, chief technology officer at Automox; Dmitri Alperovitch, co-founder and chairman of the Silverado Policy Accelerator; and Kat Traxler, principal security researcher at Vectra AI. Their backgrounds span endpoint management, cyber policy and security research.
Among the central questions is whether prevention-focused controls can reduce the burden on security operations centers by blocking attacks before analysts must investigate them. The discussion is also likely to consider the practical limitations of prevention, including incomplete asset visibility, configuration errors and the difficulty of protecting complex enterprise environments.
